New 10-seater Senderbahn gondola lift on Hauser Kaibling

The new 10-seater Senderbahn gondola lift replaces the previous 4-seater chairlift and now carries up to 2,800 passengers per hour. Thanks to enclosed cabins, ski quivers in the interior and high wind stability, the gondola offers maximum comfort - perfect for families with children and winter sports enthusiasts.

Quick and comfortable ride up to the sender plateau

At a speed of 6 m/s, the 10-seater gondola lift takes you up to the Senderplateau in just five minutes. This means you are just one lift ride away from the highest point of the Schladming 4-mountain ski area - a highlight for all those who want to discover the entire ski area.

Why a gondola lift?

The decision to install a gondola lift was a conscious one:

  • Topography: optimal adaptation to the terrain
  • Shorter travel time: arrives at the destination in just a few minutes
  • Wind stability: less susceptible to weather changes
  • Comfort: enclosed cabins for pleasant rides

Emergency drill successfully completed

Perfect coordination between emergency services ensures optimal procedures in an emergency

On November 15, 2025, a large-scale emergency drill took place prior to the official opening. Under the direction of the Liezen district administration, Hauser Kaibling, Planai, the police, the Red Cross, fire departments, mountain rescue, ski patrol, air rescue, and the municipality worked closely together. The goal was to test interfaces and procedures for emergencies across mountain boundaries.

The exercise scenario: Both new lifts had to stop due to strong winds, and numerous guests had to be evacuated by ground or helicopter. In addition, fallen trees made access difficult, and medical emergencies were simulated. Skiers on the slopes were also coordinated and transported away. Around 250 people took part.

All those responsible emphasized the importance of such exercises in strengthening safety, coordination, and efficiency between the many emergency services organizations. The cooperation was professional, and the exercise provided important insights for real-life emergency situations.

A big step towards completion

From the installation of the gondolas to the new viewing platform: the work is progressing visibly and whetting our appetite for the winter season.

Construction work on the Hauser Kaibling cable car is progressing rapidly. The cabins are currently being assembled and attached to the cable car, while the exterior facades are being completed at both stations. Leitner is carrying out the electrical commissioning and fine-tuning the tracks along the route to optimize the cable position. In addition, the gondolas are being transported from the valley station to the mountain station, where they are conveyed to the garage by means of an underground conveyor. The staircase to the viewing platform at the mountain station is also taking shape and will offer impressive views over the Enns Valley from the coming winter season onwards. With the completion of the stations and the final technical work, the major project of the 10-person gondola lift “Senderbahn Hauser Kaibling” is rapidly approaching completion.

Ground-breaking ceremony for two new cable cars

10-seater gondola lift "Senderbahn Hauser Kaibling" and 8-seater chairlift "Mitterhausalm I" will ensure seamless skiing enjoyment between Hauser Kaibling and Planai from the 2025/26 winter season

The festive ground-breaking ceremony was the starting signal for the construction of the new 10-passenger gondola lift "Senderbahn Hauser Kaibling". "With today's ground-breaking ceremony, we are setting an important milestone for the further development of winter tourism in Styria. The new lifts not only raise the Schladming 4-mountain ski area to a new level, but also strengthen the entire Schladming-Dachstein region as a first-class vacation destination. I would like to thank everyone involved in the realization of this project. A very special thanks goes to the landowners. Without them, this milestone would not have been possible," said Governor Mario Kunasek.

Hauser Kaibling Managing Director Klaus Hofstätter sees the new lifts as an important step for the 4-mountain ski area: "The 10-seater gondola lift 'Senderbahn Hauser Kaibling' and the '8-seater chairlift Mitterhausalm I' stand for a common vision that we share as ski mountains: to offer our guests an incomparable skiing experience. Now the construction work begins - labor-intensive months lie ahead of us all - and I am already looking forward to opening the lifts together at the start of the 2025/26 winter season."

"Our guests love moving from mountain to mountain within the Schladming 4-mountain ski area. However, the connection between Hauser Kaibling and Planai was increasingly reaching its limits. With the new lifts, we will be setting new standards in terms of comfort, speed and skiing experience from next winter," says Planai Managing Director Dir. Georg Bliem.

Farewell to two pioneers

Senderbahn and Sonneckbahn go into retirement

On Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, the winter season came to an end - and with it an important chapter in cable car history: the Senderbahn on Hauser Kaibling and the Sonneckbahn on the Planai were shut down. Since 1998, they had connected the ski mountains of the Schladming 4-mountain ski area and had a significant impact on the region's winter experience. After more than 20 years and millions of guests transported, they are now making way for modern successors - from the 2025/26 winter season.
