Helicopter Downhill Golf
The Helicopter Downhill Golf Trophy is one of the toughest cross-country golf events in Europe.
At the second Helicopter Downhill Golf Trophy event on Hauser Kaibling the participants played on a course down the Krummholz World Cup piste. The site where stars of the international ski circuit usually hurtle down the valley in winter had been specially transformed into a unique 18-hole golf course for the Downhill Golf Trophy.
Weird and wonderful are perhaps the best words to describe the spectacular and unique golf tournament which was held on Hauser Kaibling on 5 September 2009.
45 weatherproof golfers wielded their clubs in Austria’s craziest golf tournament at the weekend on Hauser Kaibling. The players comfortably made it to the top in a helicopter.
The first tee was located at 2,000 metres above sea level in the snow, which meant an additional challenge for the 9 flights which each carried five golfers. Three refreshment stops in the rustic ski lodges on Hauser Kaibling ensured that the players didn’t run out of energy over the 18 holes in a tournament which lasted 5 hours. The participants were treated to delicious traditional dishes from the local region, including Styrian doughnuts, suckling pig and sugared pancake with raisins, etc.
Organiser David Frühwirth, Hauser Kaibling managing director Arthur Moser and CheckHeli supremo Andreas Maxones congratulated the winners. Bernhard Leitenmüller needed only 45 shots to secure victory on the Krummholz golf piste. Second place was taken by Gerald Wurzbach with 46, in front of Peter Lick with 50 shots.
Nick Huber (trainer of the Nordic combined racers) got off to a brilliant start right at the first hole: 265 m from the start of the Krummholz ski run he hit a hole in one. Marco Pichlmayer, Kevin Göschl, David Frühwirth, Lukas Klapfer and Manuel Resch could only look on in amazement.
